The course will cover the following required topics;
- food handling practices to prepare and store food correctly
- hygiene practices to keep the food premises and equipment clean and well maintained in a professional and hygienic manner (e.g. professional espresso machine)
- the skills and knowledge required to extract and serve espresso coffee, including how to operate a coffee machine and make beverages including cappuccino, latte, flat white and hot chocolate.
This course results in a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment listing the units SITHFAB005 Prepare and serve espresso coffee and SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety.
SITXFSA001 – Use hygienic practices for food safety is required by Australian law for all staff handling food to have completed this accredited unit and is a pre-requisite for SITHFAB005 – Prepare and serve espresso coffee.
There are no formal entry requirements although it is expected that students will have basic literacy and numeracy skills, moderate computer, internet and e-mail skills.
