Unique Student Identifier
Training in 2017? You’ll need a USI
“In a major step towards making unnecessary training a thing of the past, the Unique Student Identifier (USI) Office opened its doors in mid-October 2014.
Every year, many Australians build and sharpen their skills by undertaking nationally recognised training. And getting the right skills when and where industry needs them is a key building block to Australia’s future prosperity. The USI will build a structure that supports targeted training for the needs of industry.
For Australian industry and the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, the USI information means:
less time in waiting for job applicants to confirm their nationally recognised training qualifications
evidence-based smarter regulation for the reduction of poor quality training
sharing of training information will make it easier for training providers and for Australian businesses
greater efficiency in managing interactions with governments and regulators, simplifying government VET program eligibility and entitlement processing.
From 1 January 2015, a USI is needed before training organisations can issue any student their statement of attainment or certificate.
