Vor Proofe was born in Liberia and arrived in Australia in 2010 from the Republic of Ghana. She began her journey in a foreign land by learning English. Vor then applied to participate in the Australian Apprenticeships Access Program – Preparation for Health Services Assistant – delivered through Djerriwarrh Community & Education Services in partnership with Western Health. She attended its information session and an interview with a staff member from Djerriwarrh and Western Health before successfully gaining entry into the program in June 2012.

Through hard work and perseverance, Vor successfully completed the Australian Apprenticeship Access Program which included 5 days work placement at two of Western Health campuses.  Thereafter she attended a job interview with Western Health and Vor was offered a 12 month traineeship position as a Health Services Assistant.

22 May 2014, at the Melbourne Town Hall,  Vor shined as she was awarded the NMIT Outstanding Apprentice/Trainee of the Year award within the Faculty of Arts and Social Science. Vor is the first student in the Health Department of NMIT to be awarded this prestigious title. Congratulations Vor and we wish you all the best in your journey!
