Grant to connect Melton’s culturally diverse community

We are very pleased to announce that our Community House has received a new grant from the City of Melton to develop a program to support Melton’s culturally and linguistically diverse residents. Melton currently has many residents who have recently arrived to Australia and struggle to participate fully in the local community because of language or cultural barriers. This project aims to create an opportunity for people to come together, learn about different services and participate in local activities in the Melton area.

The project will include tours of Melton’s facilities – so everyone knows where the libraries, swimming pool, community centres, health centres and sports facilities are. There will be health and law information sessions as well as opportunities to try out different sports and activities such as yoga and meditation. Community meals and cultural events will also be included.

We want to help new arrivals settle better in Melton and make it easier for people whose first language is not English to participate in community life. This project aims to improve people’s confidence and wellbeing as well as breaking down social isolation by connecting people to their communities.
