Some of our AMEP students marked Human Rights Day this year by taking part in Amnesty International’s Write for Rights campaign. According to Amnesty International,
Write for Rights brings millions together to free people around the world from human rights abuses – because when we act together, we change lives.
-To the President and all members of the Philippines Parliament: “Please support Marinel’s cause by ensuring that you do all you can to enable the residents of Matarinao village in Salcedo, Eastern Samar (the Phillippines) to live in decent conditions”
-To the Greek Minister of Citizen Protection: “It is terrible that in Greece someone can go to prison for saving lives, as part of a sea and rescue organization, helping people at risk at sea. No government should ever make criminals of people assisting refugees”
-To the Prime Minister of Canada: “Please provide specialized health care for survivors of mercury poisoning at Grassy Narrows (Canada)”
-To the Egyptian Public Prosecutor: “I am concerned for the life and safety of Ibrahmin Ezz El-Din, a human rights researcher, the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedom. Please make sure he has access to his family and lawyers and assure he has not been tortured or mistreated”
