Djerriwarrh Community & Education Services (Djerriwarrh) is a highly regarded not-for-profit charitable organisation which has been delivering high quality education, training, employment and youth programs in the western suburbs of Melbourne since 1989. Program:
The Homework Club provides a safe, supportive out‑of‑school learning environment for primary and secondary students from African communities in Melton and surrounding areas. Delivered in partnership with local schools, services and Djerriwarrh programs, the Homework Club supports students’ sense of belonging and inclusion, improves literacy, numeracy and communication skills, and strengthens engagement in education.
The program operates at Djerriwarrh Community & Education Services in Melton on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Students in Years 7–12 attend on Wednesdays, and students in Prep–Year 6 attend on Thursdays.
Role:
The Homework Club Coordinator plans and delivers the Homework Club over two days per week during school terms, in line with the Victorian African Communities Action Plan guidelines and agreed funding deliverables. The role includes supervising Homework Club Assistants and volunteer Tutors, ensuring a safe, inclusive and culturally respectful learning environment, and supporting student learning outcomes.
The Coordinator also builds partnerships with schools and support agencies and engages with parents and families to monitor progress, provide feedback and encourage regular attendance.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Relevant qualification in Education, Education Support, Social/Youth Work or Early Childhood Education and Care (or working towards)
- Teaching or training qualification highly desirable
