Melanie’s new direction

After exploring her options as a part of the ParentsNext program, Melanie has found a new career in aged care that she feels passionate about.

Melanie had worked up from part time Baker Hand to the being a Bakery Manager before having her children. However as a single Mum, she knew she needed something different once her children were in school.

She worked with Djerriwarrh’s ParentsNext coach Jeantine, who helped her to consider different career pathways and options. Melanie said that, ‘Getting back into the workforce was scary. I can’t thank Jeantine enough for her help.’

Being a Health Care Worker seemed like it might suit her so Melanie enrolled in Djerriwarrh’s Certificate III individual Support (Ageing). She enjoyed the work on her placements and said that she, ‘really enjoys the profession!’ She is obviously well appreciated because she has started to work at the aged care facility, before even officially finishing her course!

Melanie says that, ‘In this job you can go home with a smile on your face because you know you’ve helped someone. I feel awesome about it!’
